These radiations are in the form for waves and the attributes and sensitivity of this radiation is dependant on the frequency of the waves. This spectrum of radiation varies from very low frequency to the very high frequency radiation. The frequency of this electromagnetic radiation is inversely proportional to the wavelength of the waves. The known and studied electromagnetic spectrum ranges from 103 (very high wavelength) to 10-12 metres(very low wavelength) which if studied in terms of frequency would be 106 (very low frequency) to 1021 (very high frequency) Hertz. Electromagnetic radiation can also pass through vacuum and does not require a medium unlike light.
As is clearly evident, visible light is only a narrow band of the spectrum of known electromagnetic radiation. The extremes of known radiation start getting blurred in the limits of the knowledge of physics. The wavelength of Gamma rays is so small that the wave could be considered more as a transfer of energy rather than a wave pattern while at the other end as the wavelength keeps on increasing and the frequency reducing, the time difference between two waves would be extremely long indeed to be considered as a pattern.                                                                             .............Previous Page,    Next Page  Page 2
